In 2004, Covey launched the sequel to the 7 Habits, The 8th Habit: From Effectiveness to Greatness. Covey put forward his theories in the form of a series of habits elucidating the steady progression moving from dependence toward independence and finally to interdependence. These values are responsible for human behavior whereas principle for results.

According to the author, principles are mere external natural theories while values are innately developed. He debunks the idea of conflation of principles and values. Covey opposes the ideology of “The Personality Ethic” in favor of “The Character Ethic” in his bestseller. It sold more than 25 million copies around the world. The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People appeared in 1989 and instantly became a huge success. It was not until late 1980’s that he started working on a self-help book of different nature. These works include Spiritual Roots of Human Relations (1970) and The Divine Center (1982). In fact, he penned several spiritual works while serving for English church. In 1962, he joined the Irish Mission of the church as the first president. Inspired by his ancestors, Covey followed their footsteps and became a practicing member of The Church of Jesus Christ in England. He got married and lived in Provo, Utah with his family. They love it and they thrive.Upon completion of his studies, he began teaching at Brigham Young University. Each child, including those with special needs, is given a leadership role in the school: leader of greeting, leader of public speaking, leader of the school's daily news program and so forth. From the moment they walk into the school each day until the final bell rings, the children soak in their adult leaders' belief that they are leaders of their own lives, have unique talents, and can make a difference.

The principles of effectiveness are creatively woven by teachers into every subject - reading, math, history, science, social studies, art, etc. The approach is inside-out, with the teachers and administrators learning, living and modeling the principles themselves first, and then, at the most basic level, integrating the principles into their teaching every day. The foundation of their approach combined the Seven Habits with quality, goal setting and measurement tools. In the months that followed, Muriel and her team of administrators and teachers decided to create a whole new magnet theme for the school-leadership.
